ESC Volunteering at Torre Escribana (Spain)
Six months of hands-on learning, permaculture, sustainability, intercultural living and community life in a living project near Zaragoza.
About the project
Learning by doing, living and caring
Permacultura Aragón is a non-profit cultural and environmental association. Its main project is Torre Escribana, a rural site near Zaragoza that works as a demonstration centre for permaculture, sustainability, environmental education and community life.
ESC volunteering offers the opportunity to take part in high-quality, accessible solidarity activities with proper support and guidance. At Torre Escribana, the experience combines practical tasks, non-formal learning, intercultural living, mentoring, personal reflection and active participation in a real ecological transition project.

Important information before applying
Accommodation
Volunteers will live in an independent house within Torre Escribana, with a kitchen, two bathrooms, a living-dining room, private or shared bedrooms and internet connection.
Food
Food will be connected, as much as possible, to local, organic and seasonal products. Some of the food comes from the farm itself when available.
Transport and mobility
Torre Escribana is located in a rural area close to Zaragoza. The city is accessible by public transport and bicycle. Zaragoza is quite flat and has a network of bike lanes.
Pocket money, insurance and ESC support
Participation in ESC volunteering is free of charge for the volunteer. The programme includes financial support, insurance, mentoring, language support when applicable and the quality measures of the European Solidarity Corps.
Schedule and rhythm of life
The experience combines practical tasks, non-formal learning, mentoring, follow-up meetings and personal time. The rhythm is connected to the real life of a farm: seasons, weather, animals, vegetable garden and project needs.
Safety and support
Activities will be carried out with appropriate supervision. Before taking part in practical tasks, volunteers will receive basic safety instructions and guidance on the correct use of tools. Personal protective equipment will be provided when needed.
Learning and Youthpass
Learning will be supported through mentoring, personal and group reflection, and recognition tools such as Youthpass, helping volunteers identify the competences developed during the experience.
Profile
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for young people with a genuine interest in sustainability, community life and hands-on learning. You do not need to be an expert, but it is important to be willing to take part in moderate physical tasks, live with others, be autonomous and have daily contact with the land, animals and weather.
This is not tourism
It is active participation in a real rural project. There will be learning, shared living, mud, animals, gardening, beautiful tasks and less glamorous ones. That is exactly where the experience happens.
